A dynamic and innovative composer, bandleader and trumpeter, Bill Warfield has energized audiences, performers and writers for more than four decades. Bill’s recordings include Song of Storyville, Hard Bop, Sambraand A Faceless Place, all on Laurel Hill Records and A Window that Shows Me the Moon and A Trumpet Story featuring Randy Brecker on Planet Arts Network. His current CD, on the Blujazz label, is The Hell’s Kitchen Funk Orchestra's Mercy Mercy Mercy.
As an educator Bill directs the Jazz program at Lehigh University and holds an M.M. in Jazz Commercial Trumpet Performance from the Manhattan School of Music where he received the William H. Borden Award for Outstanding Accomplishment in Jazz/Commercial Music, The Carmine Caruso Award for Outstanding Musicality and Trumpet Performance and the Maynard Ferguson Scholarship.
He performs regularly at such New York City venues as Iridium, Dizzy’s Coca Cola Club and The Garage and frequently performs and teaches in Europe in addition to writing commissioned works for various conservatories and radio orchestras around the world.
His work has led to associations with artists including Sonny Stitt, The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Sheila Jordan, Jon Faddis, The Gil Evans Orchestra, Mel Lewis, Ornette Coleman, Lester Bowie, Lee Konitz, The Yellow Jackets, Eddie Palmieri, Randy Brecker and others.
